Matrix of Movement
‘Matrix of Movement’ (2016/17) investigates shifts in cultural approaches to wayfaring, questioning how developments in digital technologies change our perceptions and experience of landscape. The human experience is explored through traditional hand made processes bringing together the worlds of Fine Art, Environmental Conservation, Ecology, Environmental Science and surveying offering new connections and ways of seeing.
An International artist residency in 2016 and travel bursary enabled focused research in Australia. This research resulted in a new works consisting of paper works, digital and hand printed as well as a small publication. ‘Deciduous Drawings – Insoluble Ink ‘ an essay written by Deborah Stevenson is considered integral to the project as a contextualising document linking the visual works and the residency research.
