Natural Frequencies at White Conduit Projects, London.
21 May 2025
This summer, White Conduit Projects will host exhibitions and events outside the gallery, allowing you to experience the "earth senses."
In his prose poem "The Fruits of the Earth," André Gide urges, "Throw this book away and go outside." Following this, Japanese avant-garde poet and artist Shuji Terayama published "Throw Away Your Books Rally in the Streets," advocating for a departure from institutionalised knowledge and an embrace of the outdoors. He encourages seeking recognition and creativity rooted in real-life experiences, emphasising that ideas are meaningless unless they engage the senses.
‘Everywhere where there is interaction
between a place, a time and an expenditure of energy, there is rhythm.’
Henri Lefebvre. 1992. Rhythmanalysis: Space, Time and Everyday Life
Natural Frequencies is a solo exhibition by Tracy Hill, new site-responsive installations and works on paper invite a consideration of what lies beyond the visible. Vibrations and energy underpin and connect all matter and life on earth, a natural phenomenon that is continually occurring inside our bodies and on every natural and made-made surface, each emitting its own subtle frequency.
Intricate hand-cut, drawn and printed works on paper propose connections through deep time, the slow act of making acting as a rebellion against the urgency that defines our digital world.
Through a process of walking, dowsing and field recording, natural energies are sought out and made visible through a restorative notion of curiosity and respect exploring how seeing and listening can be measured through quiet observation and stillness.
Environmental rhythms and geological timescales challenge our perceptions and willingness to understand our familiar urban spaces revealing how we can feel and sense energy and imagine invisible landscapes beneath our feet.
