(Re)Measuring States
11 Oct 2025
It has been a privilege to install a reimagined presentation from my Porosity project as part of ‘Artist Led’ at The Harris Museum. Two hand-cut Kozo paper panels site hovering above a site specific carborundum drawing responding to the invisible springs running below Preston.
Measuring States and Ephemeral Bodies were created as part of Porosity φ (2021), which investigated how the
walking body can detect visual and sonic traces enabling the senses to reveal unseen subterranean landscapes. Two hand-cut paper panels are hung in combination with a unique floor drawing created using carborundum to visualise imperceptible vibrations below
ground.
This reimagined installation is created in response to St Mary’s Well by Edwin Robert Beattie, acknowledging Preston’s historic spiritual beliefs and extending a proposition to consider how invisible springs and traces of energy running below ground continue to influence our
connection to landscape and place.
‘Artist Led’ is a new exhibition showcasing @Birleystudios artists on display in the newly opened second floor gallery at The Harris Museum in Preston now open.
