Liminal Territories

2011
Intaglio and hand-cut Kozo

Suspended membranes of pathways contained within the contours of an etched line, these pieces hang slightly from the wall to allow the light to travel through the cut outs casting shadows onto the underlying terrain surface print. The negative spaces become the positive below.

Liminal Territories have no home point, no departure point and no arrival point. Human presence is removed leaving only the traces of pathways. They reflect on the background information and the information no longer present on our maps today. We can instantly recognise the images in an intuitive way as natural, organic forms sharing stories of history and geology.

They are not maps to navigate your way through the landscape to save time; they are maps to help you find space and spend time.
